Liu Peilong started his career at the Ministry of Health (MoH), China in 1968. He successively held the posts of Director General of Foreign Loan Office, Director General of the Department of International cooperation, MoH. From 2003 to 2007 he served as assistant director-general - adviser to the director-general of the World Health Organization (WHO). Since 2008he has been engaged in global health research and training at Peking University (PKU)and was the first director of the Department of Global Health, School of Public HealthPKU. Liu Peilong served as a member of Executive Board of WHO, a member of the Global Health Advisory Board of the World Economic Forum, a member of WHO Consultative Expert Working Group CEWGon research and Development: Financing and Coordination, and was also a member of Chatham House Global Health Security Working Group on Health Governance. In 1964, he was selected as one of the first batch of Chinese Government-sponsored students to study French literature and language in France. In 1978, he received a WHO fellowship to study simultaneous interpretation at the university of Geneva in Switzerland. In 1990, sponsored by the World Bankhe studied at the Johns Hopkins University in the United States and earned a Master’s degree in Public Health.
