Institute of Child and Adolescent Health of Peking University

Approved by the Chinese Science and Technology Commission, the Institute of Child and Adolescent Health of Peking University was established in 1982. At present, it is the unique national institute of child and adolescent health/school health, being a national leader in the field. The institute provides technical support in child and adolescent health and school health for the relative department in state bureaus, such as Ministry of Education, National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, All-China Women’s Federation, State General Administration of Sports, National People's Committee, Ministry of Technology and Science and other administrative organizations. Professor Jun Ma is the current director of the institute.

Since its foundation, the institute has been responsible for the policy- and regulation-drafting, scientific research, technical guidance, professional consulting, and expertise training for nationwide activities in child and adolescent health and school health. According to the trend of domestic and international development and the need of social, major research fields include growth and development, child nutrition, mental health, puberty endocrinology and reproductive health, health education and promotion, school health standards, and school health administration and disease control. The discipline of adolescent health and maternal and child health care has been a candidate of key national discipline approved by Ministry of Education in 2007, and it was sanctioned as the only key discipline of the field in Beijing in 2008.


Faculty

The 17 faculty in which 13 staff members with full-time primary appointments in the Institute of Child and Adolescent Health, including 4 professors and 7 associate professors, are responsible for the core scientific research and academic activities.

Teaching

The institute offers courses to undergraduate, M.Sc., Ph.D. students, and professionals wishing to receive advanced education in Peking University Health Science Center. It also runs courses outside the university. In addition, there is a postdoctoral program.

Scientific Research

The institute has undertaken 252 projects related to school health or child and adolescent health from the National Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, and international organizations. 1269 academic papers, including 141 SCI papers, have been published in national and international journals until 2018.

The Institute of Child and Adolescent Health is the technical support institution of relative department in state bureaus, such as Ministry of Education, National Health and Family Planning Commission of China, The China Women’s Federation, State General Administration of Sports, National People's Committee and Ministry of Technology and Science. there are 12 institutes anchored in the institute: (1) Child / School Health Center in Chinese Center for Disease Control and prevention; (2) Chinese Student Physical Health Monitoring Center of Ministry of Education;(3) School Health Education and Training Base of AIDS Prevention in Ministry of Education;(4) School Health Personnel Training Base of Ministry of Education (5) Office School Health Program of Ministry of Education; (6) China Health Standards Committee School Health Standards Committee; (7) Chinese Preventive Medicine Association Child and Adolescent Health Professional Committee; (8) China Health Inspection Association School Health Professional Committee; (9) School Branch of Chinese Association of Health Promotion and Education; (10) School Health Work Department of School sports and Health Branch in Chinese Society of Education; (11) Health Information Center of Ministry of Health; (12) Child and Adolescent Academy of Beijing Association For Science and Technology. The Institute of Child and Adolescent Health made an important contribution in national policy making, technical guidance, professional consultation, national training, and national initiative scientific research and national guideline development.
