Department of Global Health

OUR MISSION

On October 26, 2012, when celebrating its 90th anniversary, Peking University Health Science Center founded the PKU Department of Global Health, aimed at leveraging the PKU rich resources to build up an academic institution dedicated to global health research in the 21st century.

The Department of Global Health, affiliated to the School of Public Health, is committed to integrating resources from multi-disciplines of public health, medicine, international relations and diplomacy, economics and management, population and environment, humanities and social sciences, pursuing the core value of “One Health”. Through scientific research, think tank services, talents training, industry-academia research cooperation, and international exchange and collaboration, the Department explores solutions to major health issues around the world, promotes the global health governance,the provision of global public goods for health and well-being of mankind.


ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT

The Department is pursuing the excellence in global health research and dynamic international exchanges and is devoted to exploring new models of infectious disease prevention and control, and health services and management, responding to the challenges posed by diseases, climate and environmental changes, and improving global health governance system with health diplomacy.

The Department offers master and PhD degree programs as well as non-degree executive education programs, to train the next-generation global health leaders with global vision, profound knowledge, and innovative research capacity for the global health academia, public service, and business world.


GRADUATE EDUCATION

The PKU Department of Global Health fosters an interdisciplinary and multicultural learning environment that propels innovative thinking and intellectual truth-seeking to cultivate next-generations global health experts, policymakers and researchers. The department provides students with semester-based courses, workshops and seminars, one-on-one academic research advisories, as well as opportunities to project research, international exchanges, and on-the-job practices. Students are expected to develop a box of conceptual and professional tools, which helps build rigorous scientific thinking, broad international visions, effective communication skills, and abilities to solve complex and challenging real-world problems.


EXECUTIVE EDUCATION

To improve human well-being, we have been engaged in cultivating a large number of high-calibre global health and development talents with global vision and local insights, rich multidisciplinary knowledge, and familiarity with international rules and standards. The Department leverages excellent resources across the PKU campus and a pool of global leading experts focusing on economics and management, public health, diplomacy and global governance, to train talents from the healthcare industry, government, academia, and NGOs both at home and abroad.
