Xinbiao Guo, Chair and Professor
The Department of Occupational Health, Department of Environmental Health and Department of Sanitary Chemistry, founded in 1954, 1950, and 1981 respectively, merged into a new department in 2000 and were renamed as the Department of Occupational & Environmental Health Sciences. The current chair of the department is Professor Xinbiao Guo.
The department offers the related professional courses for undergraduate students and provides the degree programs for master, MPH, PhD and postdoctoral studies, as well as professional continuing education for public health. The another mission of the department is to perform high level research works on the health effects of the population exposure to the chemical, physical, and biological factors in the occupational and living environment.
There are 16 staffs in this department, including 3 professors, 4 associate professors, 4 lecturers, and 5 technicians.
Professor, Department Chair. Research interests: Molecular environmental medicine, Environmental toxicology.
Professor, Research interests: Environmental epidemiology, Quantitative risk assessment for health effects of environmental pollution.
Professor, Deputy Chair of the Department. Research interests: Mechanism of occupational hazards and effective preventive method.
Associate Professor, Research interests: Reproductive health, Environmental heavy metals and health, Industrial toxicology.
Associate Professor, Research interests: Occupational safety, occupational ergonomics, adverse effects and mechanism of occupational hazards on health
Associate Professor, Research interests: Research of physical and chemical analysis in samples from environmental, food or biological origins.
Associate Professor, Deputy Chair of the Department
Research interests: Environmental medicine and health.

There are 19 master and 10 doctoral candidates in the department. The graduate students have been awarded many honors, such as the Beijing outstanding graduates and the scholarship award for excellent doctoral student granted by the Ministry of Education of China.
Occupational Health: Dust and pneumoconiosis, physical factors and ergonomics, occupational health for women, industrial toxicology, biological monitoring and biomarkers, etc.
Environmental Health: Indoor and outdoor air pollution, Environmental health risk assessment, trace elements and health, metal pollution and health, toxicological mechanisms of metal pollutants, etc.
Sanitary Chemistry: Biological standard materials, assay of materials of environmental and biological origins.
The department provides broad services to the public, such as measurement of samples from environmental or biological materials, health evaluation of the population exposure to occupational or environmental risk factors, safety evaluation for reproductive and developmental toxicity, etc.
In the past 5 years, the department has obtained research funds with a total of over 50 million Chinese Yuan from various sources, e.g. the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), the National 11th Five-year Plan Key Program of China, the National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects, and international collaborative research programs.
In the past 5 years, the department has published many scientific articles in international and domestic academic journals, such as Environ Health Perspect, Environ Sci Technol, Nanotoxicol, Sci Total Environ, etc. The department has also drafted several national occupation health standards. The staffs from the department have won numerous awards, such as the prizes of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Progress (Second and Third prizes), Chinese Preventive Medical Association Science and Technology Award (Second prizes), Chinese medical science and technology prize (Third prizes), National Award for Science and Technology Progress (Second prizes), and Military progress prize in science and technology (First prizes).
