北京大学生育健康研究所的前身是北京医科大学公共卫生学院保健流行病学研究室,20003月成立北京医科大学生育健康研究所,20004月北京医科大学与北京大学合并后改用现名。
研究所的宗旨是通过预防出生缺陷和其它不良妊娠结局,增进妇女和儿童的健康。主要研究方向包括:出生缺陷监测、出生缺陷的病因和发病机制、出生缺陷预防和控制;早产、低出生体重、围产儿死亡等不良妊娠结局的病因和预防措施;剖宫产对儿童健康的影响等。研究所拥有大规模的出生缺陷相关生物标本库,在河北、山西、内蒙等地建有人群研究基地。
研究所为卫生部生育健康重点实验室依托单位,流行病与卫生统计学国家重点学科的组成部分,编辑出版《中国生育健康杂志》。现任所长任爱国研究员,副所长刘建蒙研究员和王琳琳副研究员。

HISTORY

The Institute of Reproductive and Child Health, Peking University evolves from the Department of Health Care Epidemiology at the School of Public Health of the formerly Beijing Medical University. It became an independent institute in March 2000, shortly before the merger of the Beijing Medical University and Peking University in April 2000.
 
The mission of the institute is to improve women and children’s health through scientific research into the causes of birth defects and other adverse birth outcomes and application of the research findings in public health interventions.

1. Birth defects
Folic acid, homocysteine and neural tube defects.
Genetic determinants of birth defects: polymorphisms and next-generation sequencing.
Environmental pollutants (heavy metals and organic chemicals) and birth defects.
Folic acid supplementation and effectiveness evaluation.
Long-term effect of maternal folic acid supplementation on child growth, development, and cognition.
